Sins of the Cities

“Taxation without Representation”, the cry of our forefathers as they sought freedom from England, but what the war was really fought over was “control”. England wanted to use the colonies as a tax base and as a way to expand their Country. The colonies wanted to free themselves from England, especially since all they received from England were robber barons, taxes, and unjust laws. The revolution was fought, and the people “won” their freedom. Or did they?

A look at how this new country's government has grown out of control, is a testament that England's government was traded for one just like it or worse. The United States is a shining example of how the many have to pay for the wants and desires of the few. How else can you explain laws that allow forced annexation, satellite annexation, 5 mile radius laws that enslave people until a city decides if it wants to conquer (enslave) them or not? If a foreign government tried to forcefully annex part or all of the United States, the outrage would be nation wide, and war would be declared. If our “own” government acts in the same manner, and we protest, we are called traitors and threatened with imprisonment or worse. Go back and study history, you will see that is exactly how England responded. So, basically what happened in this country is we traded a government of foreign tyrants for one made up of local tyrants. The end result is the same, a few controlling the many, so they can prosper and everyone else can pick up the tab...........Conquered is conquered, whether you use a gun or a pen.

All the problems in this world can be traced to one thing, Control. This needs to stop, and a great start would be to tell cities they will no longer be allowed to enslave people against their will. Stop forced annexation forever. Stop satellite annexation forever. Repeal the 5 mile or any other “radius” laws. Cities should be allowed to expand only if 80% of the people directly next to them want it, and they can not charge any taxes to these people until they can furnish them all the benefits the current residents receive. It would certainly be nice if government(s) in this country started representing the people who elected them, instead of the modern day carpet baggers, lobbyists, special interest groups, and just plain old thieves. As times get tougher, how about the government(s) leading by example, cut your salaries and benefits 2X what you ask or require everyone else to do. Live within strict budgets, cut out all waste. Your wages and benefits should be the first to be frozen and the last to be unfrozen. If this country is in the dire mess you claim, let the fix start at the top for a change. If you want the American people to respect you again, start acting like responsible, caring, honest leaders again, instead of the defendants on the next showing of Crime Stories.
