Someone answer please before I contact the elected idiots...
Where does the money for this bonus they plan on giving to city employees come from? I heard a couple of the morons state that it came from a fund that was already there. Where did this so called "fund" that has 1.2 million in it come from? Is it our tax money? Part of it tax money? If so did it HAVE to be used for city employees or could it have been funneled into something else such as roads?
Please tell me it was not my tax money, please tell me that they did not hand it out because these poor, poor workers are entitled to a raise. being self employed I have not had a raise in 4 years.. matter of fact my income has gone down 60% since then. Again.. please tell me I am reading into this wrong and I do not have to contact these idiots.

Bonus money for government workers really has no source. It’s always just there. The only money extracted out of the private sector is that money used for the military. And those funds come from poor, starving children. Funds they could have used for food.

No source? So it falls out of the sky? So the city being in the red has nothing to do with this pot of money that has no source? I'm not ragging on you I just want to know and I certainly will not ask the council clowns and expect to get a correct answer.

I know you not ragging on me. And it is frustrating the way Gov workers and far too many non-Gov workers think funding just comes from somewhere “else” and not over-taxed citizens. And no, you will not get a correct answer from COW. They’ll either flat out try to misrepresent the source or have no clue.

They play one of their favorite games to justify things like this. What they do is they will point to some spending plan for $1.5 million that they made a year ago. They will come out and say that they are cutting that plan from the budget, and giving $1.2 million of it to the employees instead. Then they will say that they just saved us $300,000. Isn't that nifty? When the truth is, the original $1.5 million we didn't have in the first place. The $1.2 million we don't have. This is going to be additional debt on top of the $30 million+ we already owe. All you have to do in government to say you cut spending is to "plan" on spending x amount. Then cut that and say you just cut x amount from the budget! It's like if you and your family planned a $10,000 vacation, and then decided not to go. You haven't gained anything right? You just didn't spend something. However, in government that would be presented as gaining $10,000 for taxpayers, because you didn't spend what you had no business spending in the first place! It takes a special kind of crook to work in government...

Just in time for the holiday season, employees for the city of Wilmington will get a little extra cash in their pockets.
The Wilmington City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to give all employees hired as of July 1 a one-time $1,000 bonus. Part-time employees will get a pro-rated bonus, and employees hired after July 1 will get $100.The council also agreed to spend up to $7,000 for an employee appreciation event.
"I'm in favor of this. I think the timing is right," Councilwoman Laura Padgett said. "I know we need roads, we need sidewalks. But this will put money into the local economy."
The estimated cost of the bonuses is $1.2 million, City Manager Sterling Cheatham said. He told council that in the past few months since the city adopted the current fiscal year 2011-12 budget, city staff has worked to save money within each department by freezing all open positions and restructuring existing jobs.
Those savings, he said, will pay for the bonuses. Employees will get the bonuses in December.
Councilwoman Kristi Campos and other members applauded the employees for their hard work.
"It's their savings. They did that on their own," she said.
A committee of city employees agreed to recommend that all workers get the same bonus despite their salary level.
City employees have gone three years without a pay adjustment and were hit with a 2-percent reduction in their 401K contributions. City officials say this is the equivalent of a 10-percent pay reduction.
Now I just love what the women had to say...our own Nancy Pelosi Padgett says she knows we need roads and the other clown says its "their savings" Savings? So these workers have a savings account and the city finally gave it to them? You know sometimes if one is that stupid and has nothing really worth saying to the media its better just to smile and say nothing. Yet these are the idiots that run our city?
You are right about a special kind of crook Ben, its sad to say that every last one of them are liars, corrupt and basically sumbags that are in it for the freebies and their idea of cheap fame and attention and not serving the interest of the people. Needless to say I think most feel this way about politicians.

Wouldn’t it be nice is the private sector citizens of Wilmington could pick and choose between needs and wants this easily?
If they could declare some unspecified “savings” and then but a new iPad.
How tough it is on these City Employer to have the same salary for the past 3 years and then suffer the indignity by having their 401K match cut 2 entire, whole percentages point.
I know people who have had 100% pay cuts. And I know they won’t get a break on their property tax.

There are ZERO IQ qualifications to be a politician, the idiot that parades around the longest saying how great they are and spending the most money on pretty signs wins. The 2 comments by these 2 brain dead women just proves that.
As far as the same salary for 3 years TOO DAMN BAD, I don't give a DAMN about their raises, 401K or anything else for that matter. I know several business owners that went under and are spending their 401Ks to survive getting penalized 35% effing %. You think these city priimadonnas care about the private sector? I doubt most idiots would even know what it means.
