Wilmington Rants!

Southeastern NC's Political & Economic Opinion Arena

The line in the sand between free market capitalism and "f**k-it-all-government-will-save-us" socialism, is an ever-solidifying one. I was listening to Richard Davis on 980 WAAV the other evening; and I really got a solid grip on where exactly he stands. In his signature smug and condescending tone, he manipulates the words in the Constitution, "promote the general welfare..." to mean that the government is obligated to play healthcare Tooth Fairy in every one of our lives - leave the majority of your income under your pillow at night, and Big Daddy government will come in and take care of everything for you.

While this may actually sound somewhat good to some, you have to really weigh the effects and consequences. First of all, this would stifle free market involvement in medical technology and innovation. It's simple, if government promises to provide us with every health benefit imaginable, then there's really no financial reward for the free market to keep inventing ways to make us live longer and healthier lives. Think about it, if government decided to give everyone free computers, what is the incentive to design and create new technology, processing capabilities, and functionality for your home PC? Innovation dies in the water.

Mr. Davis' solution fixes it all for us however, "change people's mindsets" he preaches to us. Simply change the desire that people have to make money through innovation and invention, with the hope of bettering their lives when they come up with the newest and most efficient technological advances for saving lives.

Purging this ideal from the capitalistic mindset - as Mr. Davis suggests - can be done, and has been done before. It's actually a very old , antiquated economic system, that has failed and failed again. It's called communism. Only through communism can a government completely remove financial gain as a motivational driver in the market. Everybody looks the same, makes the same money, drives the same car, lives in the same house, has the same problems, and works the same hours - and the idea of ever improving one's quality of life, making more money, and bettering one's circumstances goes out the window by order of the United States Federal Government.

Are their problems in capitalism? Sure. Should the healthcare industry be carefully regulated? You betcha. Does putting us all in a time machine and sending us to live in the Cold-War era USSR promise to fix anything? Hell no! Our problems will be on the way to being rectified when we open our eyes and see that fueling, not stifling, the free market is the only way to drive every measurable economic metric in the right direction, lower unemployment, and let people keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets.

Our government can't even buy a hammer without having to fill out 300 pages of paperwork and spending $10,000 of taxpayer money - and you, Mr. Davis, want them to have the ultimate say-so in all of our issues of personal health? You big dope.

The real question is...why would anyone be listening to Richard Davis about financial and economic issues...isn't he unemployed? What is his background in finance and economics? Has he ever owned a business? Has he ever worked in the financial industry?....the answer is the same - "No"! Thus, "No" to Richard Davis as a credible source of information or opinion!
Right on, TalkerMan. Davis is a symptom of our social plight - this idea that life is inherently "unfair" and only through the power and force of the Imperial Federal Government can we forcefully impose fairness at any cost to our freedom, individuality, and liberty.

I fully agree. Davis is a symptom of our social condition. Let's use the power of government to force "fairness" on everybody, regardless of how unfair it is...

Dug up this old discussion here and boy - he's back. If you've been listening to the WAAV over the last few days, there's Richard, leftist as ever; and touting ObamaCare as the great antidote to all the world's ills.

He has jammed the airwaves with so many factual inaccuracies, he should be indicted for some sort of intellectual felony.

Let me paraphrase some of his comments over the last couple of days:

"Obama's healthcare proposal does have a problem with individual liberty. That's the one problem I have with it. It does infringe on individual rights."

-Well what the hell are we here for then, Richard? Why do we have a Constitution - why did we emancipate ourselves from British tyranny in the first place? Idiot.

"Universal healthcare will only cost each American $2.68 a day. That's from the Huffington Post."

-Well then I know it's true. Discussion over. Idiot.

"According to the General Welfare Clause in the Constitution, Congress has the right and the authority to decide if providing universal healthcare equates to the general welfare."

-I bet I know more about the biological make-up of the Albino African Speckled Fruit Fly than you know about Constitutional law. This is absolutely false, period. Only the judiciary can decide the Constitutionality of a mandate according to the doctrine of stare decisis which we are subject to. Idiot.

"You republicans, you can't just do nothing. You're going to play on our court, by our rules, we're going to decide the playbook, and we're the coach."

-And I thought we were all Americans. You new leftists are really having a ball right now. Your hope and change is really working out well for everybody. I consider your form of government an insurrection against our country - and if it somehow ever comes to the point in which we take up arms against this invasion, we are the patriots defending the homeland, and our founding doctrine. You and your mindless, lazy, uneducated, stupid, somebody-else-take-care-of-me-or-else contemporaries are the insurrectionists. Idiot.

Is anyone else a glutton for punishment like me, and has wasted their time listening to this guy lately?
Yeah, I listen to a little Davis and Harvard. I kinda like Harvard, despite his progressivism.
I can't stand WAAV!!! When I first moved to Wilmington it happened to be the station I found because it had RUSH on it in the afternoons.

After listening to the morning nitt-witt and then some of the afternoon nitt-witt....I quickily realized I was listening to the wrong radio station.

Harvard and Rhonda are babbling idiots that couldn't say $hit if they had a mouth full of it. On top of that the callers on that show ---are they speaking english???--the intellectual capacity is so poor they can't even pronunciate the only language they know!!!

Havard and Rhonda....phluuh!!

If they lose Rush they are done. Rush is the only thing paying the bills on their station - the Big Talker has them embarrassingly crushed in ratings for all other hours - they only do well for those 3 hours of Rush - and then when the locals come on, they bash their bread and butter. What a bunch of mindless leftist drones...
I really don't think people take time to figure it out and the liberals just keep spoon feeding the masses into even a deeper "dumb" state. To me, it is common sense. If something is given to you, there is no incentive for innovation or creation. This is the problem. I heard a stat that showed people are more apt to find a job the last four weeks of their unemployment check expiring. Well, duh! What incentive do they have as long as the check keeps coming? I mean this is common sense whether we are talking about healthcare, welfare, taxes or whatever. This is sociology 101! But yet we have the liberals blindly thinking they can change human nature if they just redisign the package. And Mr. Davis is just another one of the idiots falling into this mindset.
Hey Ben, don't ya know that Glenn Beck runs on WAAV from 10-12 just prior to Rush? It's running against Neal Boortz on The Big Talker, but I prefer Glenn over Neal.

That was based on what Paul K told me...
I know Bortz and Beck locally run at the same time-----I choose to listen to Bortz at that time of day so that I'm not giving ratings to WAAV....seriously.

It's just sad that I have to listen to Rush on WAAV.......
