Wilmington Rants!

Southeastern NC's Political & Economic Opinion Arena

It's official - mercury found in small doses at a school is a health crisis - but large emissions of mercury into an entire community's air and water is called "economic prosperity".

I couldn't help thinking of the Titan issue when I read this. You have to wonder just how hazardous this stuff is to warrant such a response from the school. I wonder how many of the parents who are concerned about Myrtle Grove Middle School are also supporters of Titan?

Also, I have found out recently that mercury is really one of the least of the worries with Titan emissions - what with stuff like benzene, chlorine, and about 12 others that you couldn't mix in a lab without blowing yourself up...

"but that's just progress son..."

It makes you wonder why in the world CFLs are replacing standard light bulbs.
because they are crap, burn out very quickly and the store gets to sell more bulbs! Somebody got seriously paid off on that deal

I think they better worry more about the water supply for that area. With the amount of water that would be used it won't be long before people will be tasting salt water from their taps long before any pollution might become a problem. That's a problem too but the water one is going to show up pretty fast.
