Wilmington Rants!

Southeastern NC's Political & Economic Opinion Arena

First, let me say that I am a staunch Berger supporter because he is the lone voice of sanity of the commission. I have taken the Star News to task in Brian's defense. But I am convinced that there is a concerted effort to do what needs to be done to eliminate Berger from any local political office. And I have to admit, they are winning.

I do not know all the facts behind this latest news story of "domestic violence" and maybe I am off base here. But am just glad that the police haven't arrested me every time I got in an argument with my wife. I am wondering if Brian can even overcome the apparent public dissatisfaction? How do you stop a democrat machine that has the media in their back pocket and will use it to exploit any situation that will make them (the democrats) look good. How do we combat this? A conservative cannot breathe the wrong way without it getting blown out of proportion. I will bet dollars to donuts that someone is behind what is going on with Brian. The man has never been arrested before and now twice within a few months? Do I sound frustrated? Well, I am.

Ben, I read your statement. Well written.

First I was and am still a supporter of Brian Burger at least for now.  Let us not all get confused between fact and opinion.  I have seen posts here that express opinion as fact.  Yes Brian was arrested (FACT).  My (OPINION) is we need to investigate a little into why he was arrested on such a minor offence.  Personally I would not mind seeing a little data mining in the county email records to see who is emailing who in the Sheriff's office to address Burger in such a draconian manner, in my opinion this in itself is very suspicious, add that to the eagerness with which the local DA seems to want to bring Brian up on charges.  To me is seems Brian might be getting "NIFONGED."  (reference to the Duke Lacrosse Players)

Next, Brian needs to begin to "FRAME" the discussions based on the actual issues the county is facing.  Yes it is difficult to ignore this minutia and move on when it seems obvious to me (opinion) that there might be some efforts being made by a few other commissioners to marginalize Brian and keep to "business as usual"

I am very disappointed in Brian's attendance record, and this needs to be fixed ASAP.  When you take all the time to campaign and represent the People, your fiduciary responsibility is to the PEOPLE FIRST, not your own personal issues, unless you are talking about death in the family, being hit by a bus, or something like that.    Next I think Brian would benefit significantly from the classes that Chad talks about that Tony McGee just completed.  Brian can overcome this easily if HE GETS WITH THE PROGRAM, WAKES UP, and puts his duties as Commissioner FIRST on his priority list.

If Brian cannot do this then perhaps he does need to step down.  This is of course all up to Brian.

So I say to Brian...FOCUS on what you want...is it being a Commissioner or not.  Your success is completely up to you!
