Wilmington Rants!

Southeastern NC's Political & Economic Opinion Arena

"And you pathetic hacks with no soul denigrate and condescend those people.”

The above title is a quote from Ben McCoy in a post where he answered what has become one of the biggest propaganda machines I've ever seen. This would the “self proclaimed savior” called titan. This is a foreign corporation that is going to single handily end this communities despair with maybe, and I say again maybe “160” new jobs. To those in favor of titan, their track record of NOT following the rules, regulations, and laws, matters not, bring on the savior. That they will annihilate the environment matters not, bring on the savior. That they bully and file lawsuits against those that dare oppose them matters not, bring on the savior. That Egypt is reported to have started the process of shutting them down and kicking them completely out of their country matters not, bring on the savior.

If Bernie Madoff was released from prison and came to town with the promise of jobs, would he be blindly supported because the promise of jobs out weighs anything else? Would anyone with a brain want BP operating an oil rig(s) off our coast? Titan is not BP, but it is a foreign corporation with a proven record of not following rules and regulations. It is a corporation that will add pollution to an already polluted area, river, and ultimately the ocean. New jobs are very important, but the promise of new jobs should not blind everyone to the fact that some jobs are not worth the cost.

This also brings to mind a question that has puzzled me for a long time. Why will Americans put down their own Country and citizens while spouting why someone or something overseas is so much better? I do not subscribe to this as a whole, but will admit in isolated cases this is a valid claim. When this does happen to be true, instead of raising the white flag of surrender, continue to sell out to foreign companies and ideals, why don't we quit complaining, roll up our sleeves, and fix the problem? This country was once the greatest in the world, and could be again, if the citizens were willing to go back to work. Lets start by voting out the corrupt, self serving, special interest motivated politicians. Let's never allow anyone or anything to become to big to fail. Let's put policies in place that makes the penalties for breaking the rules severe enough to end this behavior. Let's quit supporting news agencies that have become propaganda machines, instead of champions of truthful, unbiased facts.

Ben was absolutely correct in his description of how the people for titan act towards those that oppose titan. The people against titan have stated publicly and on their website www.stoptitan.org for all to see why they oppose titan. The people against titan come from all walks of life, it is not a blue collar versus white collar, or the haves versus the have nots, as the press and pro titan propaganda machine tries to make it. If you buy into this, ask yourself this question. Who is for titan? Answer: Titan is for themselves, a foreign multimillion/billion dollar corporation, with their best interest at heart. Wilmington Industrial Development, a group of very wealthy business people who after taking their profits off the top can skip out of town and leave the mess they helped create in their rear view mirror. The press appears to be the mouth piece for these two groups also. The last group is the people the above mentioned have convinced they care about them and are going to give them much needed jobs. Titan and their supporters refuse to answer any questions with verifiable facts. They answer questions with questions without answering anything. They choose to attack people against titan with nothing more than hot air and bogus lawsuits. Why do questions scare them so much? Is it they are scared to have anything on public record that may require explaining at a later date? If they are so great, what are they hiding? My opinion is they are trying to hide the fact they are a foreign corporation that could care less about American values, rules, our environment, or our way of life. Titan is not the savior of our current economic status. Titan, if allowed to build this plant will add to the economic and environmental problems of our community for many years to come. Please do research for yourself, the information is available. Do not be swayed by big talk, big promises, and money splashed around the community. Actions speak louder than any words, and titan's actions all around the world do not paint a picture of someone you want operating in your community. Please do not let the promise of jobs blind you to the overall picture. There are many other considerations besides the jobs offered. Ask titan for an exact number of jobs that will be offered to people of this area not currently employed by titan, and what the job descriptions are, and what the pay scales and benefit packages will be. Good luck getting a straight answer on this, much less any of the other questions that have been asked. Good luck getting anything from the local press, other than slanted, biased, feel good stories. When they do a story favoring titan, it is never mentioned there are people opposed. If the story is about opposition, over half tells why the other side thinks titan is so great. Titan's sphere of influence, power, and control is certainly far reaching. It is sad the people entrusted with reporting the story, are now influenced by the people the story is about.

With truthful, verified information comes valuable knowledge. With valuable knowledge comes the ability to make the correct decision. If truthful, verified information is required, the correct decision is an easy one to make. Please learn the facts before forming an opinion or making a decision. Think of all the recent messes that could have been avoided if these simple steps had been followed. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill for one. A dead man valve on the sea floor, that could be activated with a remote controlled robot, would have stopped this spill from becoming a disaster that will have to be dealt with for decades to come. With trillions of dollars profit in the bank, this fail-safe device was deemed too expensive. Greed it seems has no boundaries. For those that still think the government will always look out for the best interest of the population, guess again.

Please require titan and the press to answer questions with verifiable facts. Please do not allow name calling, illusion, and misinformation to decide this issue. Please hold our elected officials accountable and require they act in the best interest of the citizens of this county and surrounding areas, instead of the best interest of greed merchants and foreign corporations. They are, after all, supposed to represent All OF THE PEOPLE.
